The invention concerns a piston pump with a piston, which, with its end surface and the pump cylinder delimits an operating chamber, which is connected, via check valves, to an operating cylinder and to a hydraulic medium supply, wherein the piston is capable of an axially reciprocating motion against the force of a spring. According to the invention, the section of the piston that extends into the operating chamber is fitted with an extension of reduced diameter, which connects to the end surface of the piston via a shoulder and which features a thickened free piston end with a sealing surface facing the shoulder. Between the shoulder and the sealing surface there is at least one valve disk which acts as a seal and is guided inside the piston and can be shut by connecting the operating chamber with the check valve and which features an axial thickness that is less than the gap between the sealing surface and the shoulder, so that the valve disk between the shoulder and the sealing surface is capable of an axially reciprocating movement, wherein the valve disk is provided with at least one opening through which the operating chamber can be connected to the second check valve and which is closed when the valve disk abuts against the sealing surface.
