PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester resin which is easily applied or baked, is excellent in processibility and adhesion to a metal, has good resistances to blistering and whitening, and does not generate a toxic or corrosive gas when incinerated; and a coating composition containing the same. SOLUTION: This polyester resin is prepared from a dicarboxylic acid component containing 0.1-10 mol% unsaturated dicarboxylic acid and a glycol component containing 60-100 mol% 1,2-propylene glycol and has a glass transition point of 40 deg.C or higher and a hydroxyl value of 80-500 equivalents/106 g.
