<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an operator to realize an appropriate speed to move a digital camera by automatically putting the camera into a panning mode when the operator is to take pictures in a panning mode. SOLUTION: A panning mode detecting circuit 12 is supplied with angular velocities in longitudinal and lateral directions that the also supplied to a system computer 10. When the circuit 12 detects a value, which indicates an approximately constant direction on a continuous basis for more than a certain time, from either one of the angular velocities in the longitudinal and the lateral directions, it is discriminated that the operator is panning the camera intentionally and a panning mode is set. When the mode is set, a high level signal is supplied from the circuit 12 to one of the input terminals of an AND gate 18. When a progressive mode is selected from among a menu while operating an operation key group 11, a high level signal is supplied to the other input terminal of the gate 18 through a terminal 17. When the signal from the circuit 12 and the signal supplied through the terminal 17 are both high level in the gate 18, a switch circuit 14 is turned on.</p> |
