PURPOSE: An operating system based television and a method of displaying the initial screen of the television are provided to display a television screen prior to system booting. CONSTITUTION: A central processing unit judges if power is on(200). When power is on, the central processing unit runs a boot loader program stored in a ROM(210). The central processing unit checks system memory and ROM(220). The central processing unit judges if there is another ROM while checking the ROM(230). When there is another ROM, the central processing unit runs the program of the ROM to output audio and video signals of the channel that was finally viewed by a user and stored in the ROM(240). Then, the central processing unit carries out PCI device check and hard disk check functions(250), and loads an operating system stored in a hard disk into a main memory(260). The central processing unit loads an application program stored in the hard disk into the main memory(270). The central processing unit boots the system(280), and processes user inputs(290).
