PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decompose efficiently a hard-to-decompose component included in a garbage. SOLUTION: A pretreating apparatus 1 is provided with a pretreating vessel 10 which stores temporally a garbage slurry to be supplied to a bio gasification apparatus. An enzyme addition line 12 for adding a cellulose decomposing enzyme to the garbage slurry in said pretreating vessel 10 is equipped to the pretreating vessel 10. Decomposition of a cellulose as a hard to decompose component included in the garbage is accelerated by adding the cellulose decomposing enzyme to the garbage slurry. The pH and the temperature of the garbage slurry in the pretreating vessel 10 are controllable so as to optimize the activity and the stability of the enzyme by providing pH control means and temperature control means 13, 14, 15, 16, 18 for controlling the pH and the temperature of the garbage slurry in the pretreating vessel 10.
