PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hydrogen-storage material composed of a fibrous graphite having high hydrogen absorbing ability, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This hydrogen storage material comprises a fine fibrous graphite having <=40 nm diameter. The material has >=0.8 wt.% hydrogen occlusion ratio at a room temperature and is produced by growing fine particles of catalytic metal as a nuclei by using a synthesis gas by a vapor-phase growth method into a fine fibrous graphite. The catalytic metal is selected from one or more kinds of cobalt, nickel, iron and copper. The growth by the vapor-phase growth method is preferably carried out at >=700 deg.C, one or more kinds of CO, CH4, CO2 and C2H4 and H2 gas can be used as the synthesis gas and the synthesis gas has preferably >=40% hydrogen concentration. |
