PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, pharmaceutical composition and kit, useful for treating cataract. SOLUTION: This composition contains estrogen agonist/antagonist, and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle, carrier or diluent. The estrogen agonist and/or antagonist is exemplified by the compound of the formula [wherein, R1 and R2 are the same or different, and each methyl or ethyl, or hydrogen or benzyl], an optical or geometrical isomer, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, an N-oxide, an ester, a quaternary ammonium salt or a prodrug thereof. The composition and the therapeutic method are not only effective but also can substantially reduce the load concomitant with the side effect accompanied with administration of the estrogen.
