PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a diene compound in high conversion in high selectivity and without depositing a metal, comprising the elimination reaction of an allyl compound such as 3,4-diacetoxybutene-1 or 1,4- diacetoxybutene-2. SOLUTION: This method for producing the diene compound, characterized by subjecting an allyl raw material compound having at least one substituent selected from an acyloxy, hydroxyl, a halogeno, OCO2R', OSO2R', and OPO2OR' (R' is an alkyl or aryl which may have a substituent) to an elimination reaction in the presence of a catalyst containing the compound of a metal belonging to the group 8 to 10 in the periodic table and an organic phosphorus compound having at least one phosphorus-oxygen bond.
