The protection operates on an engine with the cam shaft driven by twin belts (5). When one of the belts breaks a mechanical or electronic detector cuts the ignition to the engine and triggers a visual or audible alarm to alert the driver of the need for urgent intervention. A manual switch (11) allows emergency reconnection of the ignition and cuts the alarm.
