PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the industrial economical production of an optically active 4,4,4-trifluoro-3-hydroxybutanoic acid aryl ester useful as important intermediates for functional materials such as pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and ferroelectric liquid crystals. SOLUTION: The optically active 4,4,4-trifluoro-3-hydroxybutanoic acid aryl ester can be produced without lowering the optical purity by the Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of an optically active 4,4,4-trifluoro-3-hydroxy-1-aryl-1-butanone derivative using peroxophosphoric acid as the oxidation agent. |
