PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for embedding information which is suitable for making a program and compressed data as an object of embedding watermark data. SOLUTION: Coding contents are generated by adding an error correcting code to contents (step 22). Watermark embedding coding contents are generated by embedding watermark data in the generated coding contents (step 24). The watermark data has a length of data that is deletable by means of decoding processing with the use of the error correcting code. Original contents can be obtained from the watermark embedding coding contents by means of decoding processing based on the error correcting code being added to the watermark embedding coding contents.
