PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ethylenic polymer producing catalyst with high activity, less prone to degrade by ageing and capable of producing an ethylenic polymer efficiently. SOLUTION: This ethylenic polymer producing catalyst comprises a solid inorganic oxide, an almoxane and a trivalent- or tetravalent-organic chromium compound expressed by formula (1) (R1, R2 and R3 each, same or different, represents 1) a hydrogen atom, 2) an alkyl group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, 3) an aryl group having 3 to 18 carbon atoms, or 4) a silyl group substituted by an alkyl group having 1 to 18 carbon atoms or an aryl group having 3 to 18 carbon atoms, two from R1 to R3 may be bonded to form a ring, and n is 3 or 4, provided that R1 to R3 are not hydrogen atoms all at once). This method of producing an ethylenic polymer uses the catalyst.
