PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient production method for producing a sintered body in which the surface of a metallic substrate is modified by an another kind material by a process including metal injection molding which is applicable for sintered bodies with various shapes. SOLUTION: In this method for producing a sintered body, the surface of a molded substrate obtained by metal injection molding is coated with a mixture containing a binder and another kind powder with a grain size of <=50μm in a ratio of 1:0.5 to 1:2 by volume, or the molded substrate is immersed into the mixture to form an another powder layer. The molded body with the another powder layer is subjected to degreasing treatment and sintering treatment to obtain a sintered body with a modified surface. As the another powder, preferably, metal powder (e.g. molybdenum powder) having a composition different from that of the metal (e.g. stainless steel powder) composing the molded substrate is used.
