PURPOSE: An image forming apparatus and a sheet feeder are provided to make the best use of installation space by eliminating the recording material jammed in a rear side transporting passage on the user operation side with a jam clearing section. CONSTITUTION: A recording material discharging section(3) is arranged above an image forming section(1), and a recording material supplying section(4) is disposed below the image forming section. A user operation surface of a recording material cassette(5) is set substantially flush with a surface of the apparatus body. Transporting paths transfer the recording material to the image forming section, and guide to the recording material discharging section. A jam clearing section(8) is installed in a recording material transporting system(6) or the recording material transporting system to remove the recording material jammed in a rear transporting path(7).
