PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for cooling a thick steel plate capable of improving flatness of the steel plate shape and capable of uniformizing the quality of materials. SOLUTION: In the method for cooling the thick steel plate after a finish rolling in the manufacturing process of the thick steel plate, descaling is executed at one second or more before a control cooling when the control cooling is performed after the finish rolling. A finish rolling mill 10, hot correcting unit 12, descaling unit 14, temperature measuring device 16 and control cooling device 18 are sequentially arranged in the apparatus for cooling the thick steel plate.
