PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet head and its manufacturing method whereby electrodes without flashes can be formed at low costs, and good ink discharge characteristics can be maintained. SOLUTION: The ink jet head has a substrate 16 where diaphragms 18 formed of a piezoelectric ceramic are arranged at predetermined intervals and chambers 17 are defined between the diaphragms 18, and a nozzle plate 23 where nozzle openings 24 communicating with the chambers 17 are formed and which is joined to an end face of the substrate 16. Ink in the chambers 17 is discharged from the nozzle openings 24 by impressing a driving voltage to the electrodes 19 set to side faces of the diaphragms 18. Ends of the electrodes 19 at the side of the nozzle plate 23 are positioned to be inner than the face of the substrate 16 where the substrate is joined to the nozzle plate 23.
