PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the versatility of a positioning mechanism on a transfer carriage as a workpiece positioned on the transfer carriage is transferred to and clamped in a work table. SOLUTION: The workpiece W positioned on a lifter table 20 of the transfer carriage 8 by locating pins 21 is lifted up along with the lifter table 20 until seated on the work table above where it is clamped by clampers on the work table. The locating pins 21 engaged with spark plug mounting holes 22 in the workpiece W each have a substantially semicircular frustum shape with a pair of positioning edge portions 24, and are also capable of being positioning by an NC motor 25. The locating pins 21 are engaged with the spark plug mounting holes 22 and next radially moved to bring the positioning edge portions 24 in point contact with the inner circumferences of the spark plug mounting holes 22.
