PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating leuco substance, ectocinerea and cerebrospinal fluid from a brain image which is provided from a magnetic resonance imaging instrument and for calculating each volume. SOLUTION: In the method, the leuco substance, the ectocinerea and the cerebrospinal fluid are separated from a proton density image photographed concerning the same transection of a brain part and from a T2 emphasis image among slices generated by the magnetic resonance imaging instrument and the each volume is calculated. The method is characterized by comprising a first process for calculating the number of pixels which constitute respective components from a whole part in consideration of the rate of the two mutually different components, a second process for deciding a judgement value by which two parts are separated in an area where the two components are superimposed and blurred based on the number of pixels calculated in the first process, and a third process for obtaining the volume of each component from the image separated by the judgement value of the second process.
