PURPOSE: An optical pickup device and an apparatus for writing and reading light using the same are provided to access different kinds of optical disks with the appropriate size of an optical beam, thereby simplifying a configuration of the optical pickup device. CONSTITUTION: A first light source(14) generates a first optical beam. A second light source generates a second optical beam having a wavelength longer than that of the first optical beam. An optical system selectively irradiates the first optical beam or the second optical beam according to an optical disk to be accessed, and has a liquid crystal plate and a polarizing plate controlling the number of apertures to have a first value and a second value smaller than the first value. An optical detector(24) detects a reflected optical beam reflected from the optical disk for converting the reflected optical beam into electric signals, so that the first optical beam is irradiated having the first value of the apertures in the case of a first optical disk(10a), the second optical beam is irradiated having the first value of the apertures in the case of a second optical disk(10b), and the second optical beam is irradiated having the second value of the apertures in the case of a third optical disk(10c).
