PURPOSE: An apparatus for atomizing molten metal is provided which inexpensively manufactures finer powder having more uniformed particle size as almost constantly maintaining average particle size distribution of powder in manufacturing metallic powder including ceramic. CONSTITUTION: In a continuous tapping unit(3) comprising a main melting furnace(1a) forming and supplying molten metal and a tundish(1c) tapping molten metal through a nozzle(9), and an apparatus for atomizing molten metal in which molten metal tapped through the nozzle(9) is atomized by an atomizing means(2), the apparatus for atomizing molten metal comprises the atomizing means(2) consisted of a rotation disk(8) which is installed at the lower part of the molten metal dropped and rotated at a high speed by a rotation motor(2') so as to atomize molten metal by applying shearing and centrifugal forces to dropping molten metal; an atomizing tank(1) in which the rotation motor(2') and rotation disk(8) are installed along with the tundish(1c), and which is maintained to vacuum during initial period of operation by a vacuum pump(21) of a vacuum system(20) and filled with an inert gas or reducing gas by an inert(reducing) gas supplier(30); and a plasma generator(50) which is installed at the lower part of the tundish(1c) and generates plasma between the nozzle(9) and rotation disk(8) of the atomizing means(2), or surrounding the rotation disk(8) so that molten metal dropped onto the rotation disk(8) or liquid-drop scattered from the rotation disk(8) is formed into finer and more uniformed metal powder.
