PAPERMAKING METHOD FOR NEUTRAL NEWSPRINT PAPER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing neutral newsprint paper using a paper stock containing a filler consisting mainly of calcium carbonate through an efficient papermaking process under neutral to weakly alkaline conditions in high yield with minimal pitch troubles. SOLUTION: This method for producing neutral newsprint paper comprises incorporating a paper stock prior to papermaking with (A) a cationic water-soluble polymer and/or polycondensate-based cationic substance and making a treatment and then adding (B) an anionic water-soluble polymer to the system followed by conducting a papermaking operation; wherein it is preferable that the anionic water-soluble polymer is in the form of polymeric microparticles <=100μm in size and produced by dispersion polymerization process in an aqueous salt solution in the presence of a polymeric dispersant soluble to the aqueous salt solution.
