PURPOSE: A microwave oven and method for controlling voltage for microwave oven is provided to ensure reliability of magnetron and prevent damage of circuit element by reducing peak voltage of magnetron during an initial oscillation and removing surge voltage. CONSTITUTION: A microwave oven comprises a magnetron(1); a high voltage transformer(5) for supplying a high voltage to the magnetron; and a resonance capacitor(1) connected in parallel to a secondary coil(7) of the high voltage transformer, and which constitutes a resonance circuit together with the secondary coil. A method for controlling voltage for microwave oven, comprises the steps of boosting a voltage to a high voltage from the high voltage transformer; and resonating the boosted high voltage and supplying the high voltage to the magnetron.
