PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat shrinkable polyethylene terephthalate tube for coating a lithium ion battery having a small embrittlement of the tube before the battery is covered with the tube, good cutting properties, excellent shrinkage characteristics and openability when the battery is covered with the tube and excellent heat resistance and impact resistance after the battery is covered with the tube. SOLUTION: The heat shrinkable polyethylene terephthalate tube for coating the lithium ion battery comprises a resin composition mainly containing a thermoplastic resin (component A) which contains (A) a polyethylene terephthalate resin of 70 wt.% or more containing a diethylene glycol component of 1.0 to 9.0 mol%. The tube has a heat shrinkage factor when the tube is dipped in warm water of 100 deg.C for 30 s of 20 to 50% in a radial direction of the tube, and 0 to 20% in a lengthwise direction of the tube.
