PURPOSE: A gas compressor is provided to prevent damage by controlling pressurizing action of a cylinder when pressure in the cylinder is higher than normal pressure. CONSTITUTION: A compressor(10) includes a cylindrical cylinder(12); housings(14a,14b) closing ends of the cylinder, respectively; pistons(181a,181b) moving in longitudinal direction of the cylinder; a rotary axis(22) placed in the cylinder and extending in longitudinal direction of the cylinder; a swash plate(20) joined to the rotary axis and inclining in respect to the rotary axis; and a working member joined to the pistons and includes a pair of balls(1835) placed to face each other with the swash plate therebetween and shoes(1837) interposed between the ball and the swash plate so as to take gas into a space formed between the pistons and the housings to compress and discharge as the swash plate rotates to reciprocate the working member and the pistons joined to the working member when the rotary axis rotates.
