Method for spectroscopic analysis of plasticized extrudate in an extruder comprises irradiating it with electromagnetic radiation and spectroscopic analysis of the reflected radiation. The extrudate in the area of the extruder screw (2) is irradiated radially and the radiation within it (12a) is reflected from the screw after moving a distance 'd'.
