PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cross flow tray stripping device used for stripping con taminated water containing volatile organic compounds, etc., having a high stripping efficiency, being compact and at a low cost and having a characteristic that consideration is not paid given to the installation place because of a com pact size. SOLUTION: In the stripping device, liquid to be processed is purified by transferring volatile contaminant substances in the liquid to vapor phase by contacting vapor with the liquid. An inlet weir and an outlet weir are mounted onto an upper surface of a cross flow tray disposed in the tower body of the device and a partition plate is mounted between the both weirs in parallel to and/or perpendicular to the inlet weir and the outlet weir. In the cross flow tray stripping device, it is characterized that the liquid to be processed is flowed down on the upper surface of the cross flow tray from the inlet weir toward the outlet weir while it is piston-flowed.
