PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silyl (meth) acrylate compound having a bulky substituent, useful as a raw material for a hydrolyzable self-polishing polymer which is contained in a ship bottom paint or the like, because of its low hydrolysis rate. SOLUTION: This silyl (meth) acrylate compound having the bulky substituent is expressed by the general formula (1) (R<1> and R<2> are each a 3-10C monovalent branched chain hydrocarbon residue which has a hydrocarbon residue on itsα-orβ-position or a 3-10C a monovalent cyclic hydrocarbon residue, and may be identical to or different from each other; R<3> is a 4-10C tertiary hydrocarbon residue; and R<4> is H or methyl).
