PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate trouble due to a shift in imaging plane positions between a 1st and 2nd sensors. SOLUTION: The 1st and 2nd sensors are arranged extending in mutually different directions so as to perform focus detection in the same focus detection area; and it is decided whether the quantity of the shift between the imaging plane position of an image whose focus is detected by the 1st sensor and the position of the imaging plane position of an image whose focus is detected by the 2nd sensor exceeds a specific value and when so, one of the 1st and 2nd sensor is made ineffective.
