PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for inspecting excessive or missing pages which can reliably detect excessive or missing pages of a thin content article, which have been liable to be overlooked. SOLUTION: The method for inspecting excessive or missing pages comprises a step of inspecting excessive or missing pages of contents obtained by gathering articles to be enclosed or an envelope containing the contents based on displacement of two rollers when the contents or the envelopes are held by the rollers on their carrying path. A carrying interval for separately carrying each of a plurality of the contents or envelopes is aligned with a peripheral length of at least one of the rollers. The rollers are synchronously rotated with the carrying, thereby detecting the displacement with a predetermined position on a peripheral surface of the roller as a reference position.
