PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-adhesive surface-modified rubber as retaining the excellent properties intrinsic to rubber, for example, strength compression permanent set, sealing properties, deformation followability. SOLUTION: The sulfer surface is treated with a solution including unsaturated organosiloxane containing a methacrylate group and hydroperoxide, high carboxylic acid metal salts and/or an organic crosslinking agent and solvent. Then, the surface treated rubber is held from a room temperature to 100 deg.C to polymerize the monomers to modify the rubber surface and the vicinity. In a preferred embodiment, the treatment solution is brought into contact with the rubber (preferably, the rubber is soaked with the solution) and the methacrylate group-including unsaturated organosiloxane is polymerized in the soaked state. The surface modified rubber is preferably useful as a sealant. |
