PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide electric discharge lamp lighting equipment, which is enabled to use temporarily an electric discharge lamp, of which the valve characteristics, such as rated electric power and the like, differ. SOLUTION: A control circuit 5 is constituted with a valve kind distinction circuit 8, which distinguishes a kind of an electric discharge lamp La, with which a socket part 20 is equipped from the detection result of the ramp voltage detection circuit 6, a valve characteristic memory part 9, which memorizes the valve characteristics of two or more kinds of the electric discharge lamps La, extracts the rated electric power of the electric discharge lamp La, which has been equipped based on the distinction result of the valve kind distinction circuit 8, and outputs it to a rated electric power switching circuit 10, a rated electric power change circuit 10, which generates a control signal for switching the rated electric power of the ballast part 1 based on the rated electric power inputted from the valve characteristic memory part 9, and an electric power control part 12, which controls the output of the ballast part 1 based on the inputted control signal from the rated electric power switching circuit 10. The control circuit 5 controls the output of the ballast part 1 so that the output of the ballast part 1 may not exceed the rated electric power of the electric discharge lamp La. |
