PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To discover a safe and energy-saving method in a process for producing a cationic resin. SOLUTION: The method for producing the cationic resin is characterized in that (D) an amino group-containing compound is added to (I) a modified epoxy resin obtained by simultaneously reacting (A) an epoxy resin having 150-400 epoxy equivalent, (B) a cyclic ester compound and (C) a polyphenol compound. Preferably, the polyphenol compound (C) is a bisphenol A, and the epoxy resin (A) has 153-190 epoxy equivalent in the method for producing the cationic resin. Further preferably, the cyclic ester compound (B) isε- caprolactone in the method for producing the cationic resin.
