PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording and reproducing method for a coating application type magnetic recording medium which is used in a recording and reproducing system combining an MR head, is excellent in productivity, is good in electromagnetic conversion characteristics and is greatly improved in an signal-to-noise ratio particularly in a high-density recording region. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording and reproducing method of reproducing the recording signals of the magnetic recording medium formed with a magnetic layer mainly composed of ferromagnetic powder and a binder on a base by the magneto-resistive magnetic head (MR head) is characterized in that the element thickness of the MR head is <=50 nm and the ferromagnetic powder is 10 to 40 nm in the average plate diameter and a hexagonal ferritic magnetic powder having the average plate thickness thinner than the element thickness of the MR head to be reproduced. |
