PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a test system for determining the performance of inhibiting system sensor for air bag and a method therefor. SOLUTION: A system for testing a proximity inhibiting system for the air bag has a positioning sensor 114 controlling the motion of a passenger model 107 toward an inhibiting zone 103 in a vehicle, and a proximity detector 111 for supplying a first output signal detecting that the passenger model 107 enters the inhibiting zone 103. The air bag inhibiting system as a test device supplies a second output signal detecting that the passenger model 107 enters the inhibiting zone 103. The timer difference of the first and second output signals indicates the performance factor of the air bag inhibiting system. The comparison of the position of the passenger model 107 with a border of the inhibiting zone 103 indicates the performance factor of the air bag inhibiting system, including a controller 121 for making sure of the passenger's position when detecting that the passenger model enters the inhibiting zone.
