PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for readily and accurately determining the activity of a protease included in a biological sample. SOLUTION: This frozen block, for example, for preparing a frozen fragment contains a water-soluble polymer such as a polyvinylpyrrolidone and a protease such as matrix metalloproteases. The frozen block is usable for forming a digested mark by bringing a part or the whole thereof into contact with a thin film which contains a protease substrate and is formed on a carrier.
