PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a range finder capable of finding a range wider than a conventional one, and capable of accurately finding the range, irrespective of the position of a main subject, to provide an inexpensive focusing camera equipped with the range finder, and also, to provide a camera capable of precisely deciding an exposure time when using the range finder sensor output of the range finder as the auxiliary for the exposure. SOLUTION: As for the camera range finder for focusing on the subject at either point among several points in a picture frame based on an image signal, the range finder is provided with photodetecting means (image pickup sensors 3a and 3b) for photodetecting the image signal through prescribed optical systems (photodetecting lenses 2a and 2b), and a decision means (CPU 1) for deciding the point effective in focusing among several points in accordance with the luminance in the picture frame, and the light quantity change characteristics of the image signal by the positional relationship between the photodetecting means and the optical systems. |
