PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bidirectional contact image sensor capable of easily moving an object bidirectionally in a sub-scanning direction with respect to a read area. SOLUTION: In this bidirectional contact image sensor which is provided with a case with a prescribed opening part formed in the upper part and cover glass which closes the opening part and in which a line-shaped read area of a prescribed length is also formed on the surface, and in which a sheet-shaped object to be read is moved bidirectionally in a sub-scanning direction while coming into contact with the read area, the edge part located at both end sides of the opening part on the case in a sub-scanning direction and extending in a horizontal scanning direction is formed in a curved surface shape with its upper surface projecting on an upper side of the case, wherein the height level of the top of the curved surface is higher than the height level of the upper surface of the cover glass.
