PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focusing device and a focusing method which are excellent in both responsiveness and accuracy. SOLUTION: This focusing device for an image pickup device has a distance measuring means 13 for detecting a distance up to an object, lens driving means 34 and 35 for driving a photographing lens 22 of the image pickup device according to results of the distance measuring means 13, a focus detecting means for detecting a focus of the object by using an imaging sensor 21 of the image pickup device, a correcting means for correcting the lens driving means 34 and 35 in accordance with focus detection results of the focus detecting means, and a deciding means for deciding the effectiveness of the correcting means. |
