PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an alkylimidazoline (meth)acrylate having slight discoloration. SOLUTION: The compound of formula (I) can be produced by reacting at least one (meth)acrylate of formula (II) with a heterocyclic alcohol of formula (III) in the presence of a catalyst containing at least one compound (a) consisting of a chelate derived from lithium and a 1,3-dicarbonyl compound. The invention further relates to a composition containing a solution of the compound (I) in the (meth)acrylate (II). The main subject of the invention is the use of the composition in the production of a polymer usable as a coating agent and an adhesive for the treatment of paper and woven fabric and an agent for the treatment of leather and in the production of a coating material exhibiting adhesivity in a highly humid environment.
