PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveguide type optical module on which light can be made uniformly incident. SOLUTION: An optical fiber 180 is so installed that a light beam crossing the optical fiber 180 is made incident on a light incidence end surface 122 of the optical waveguide 120 and then the optical fiber 180 is used as a changing for the light beam shape. For example, the sectional shape of a light beam emitted from another optical fiber 170 can be changed from a nearly circular shape to a nearly oblong circular shape. The sectional shape of the light beam is changed into a shape corresponding to the light incidence end of the optical waveguide which is sectioned nearly in a rectangular shape and then light can be made uniformly incident on the optical waveguide 120.
