PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary tool turret which is small-sized, has a small number of parts, and does not generate noise, and to provide an opposed double main spindle lathe having the same. SOLUTION: A rotation transmitting shaft 4 connected to a tool driving shaft 13 in a turret case 5 is arranged inside a hollow indexing shaft 2 having the turret case 5 fixed to the tip of the hollow indexing shaft 2. A large-sized tool driving motor 19, which needs high speed rotation and high torque, is arranged at a position opposed to the turret case side with its output shaft 31 aligned with the axis of the rotation transmitting shaft 4. The tool driving motor 19 is able to control a stop phase, and to hold a stop position. Because the rotary tool turret 37 has not a portion largely extending toward this side or upward, a slide door 39, etc., are able to be arranged nearer a workpiece. Accordingly, the floor space for the lathe can be reduced, and accessability of an operator to the workpiece is improved, and an excellent appearance can be obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
