PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera that can reduce a start time to the utmost after application of power until photographing is available. SOLUTION: A buffer memory 6 reads a minimum start program required for starting an imaging system 2, the digital camera executes the program to make photographing available at system start, when a release button 12 is operated, the buffer memory 6 stores image data photographed by the imaging system 2 and the digital camera reads the remaining start program including a program for information acquisition from a memory card 8 to the buffer memory 6 and executes the program after that. In precedence over processing such as the information acquisition of the memory card 8, only the start processing of the imaging system 2 is executed earlier so as to attain high-speed start and to made immediate photographing available so that the start time after application of power until photographing is made available can be reduced to the utmost thereby remarkably reducing the possibility of missing a shutter opportunity.
