PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely extract a graphic area from an image data to execute a proper process for the graphic region in the read image data. SOLUTION: After the graphic area is firstly extracted from a received image data (S222, S224), a photograph area and a character area are separated from the data remaining after extraction (S225, S226). Consequently, the graphic area is not extracted in accordance with the other areas under the influence of separating process for the other areas.
