PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for observing optical fibers that enable observation time or measuring time to be reduced and that thereby improve efficiency of connecting operation. SOLUTION: In focusing each of the two optical fibers Fa, Fb to be connected with each other using an optical observation mechanism 10 for making an optical observation from the side, the optical fibers Fa, Fb are each arranged at the position with the axial lines Oa, Ob shifted from each other. Then, the optical fiber Fa is focused by moving the optical observation mechanism 10 while the position of the optical fiber Fa is fixed and, after the mechanism 10 is fixed at this position, the optical fiber Fb is moved and focused.
