PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical fiber coupler which can prevent the quality and yield of the optical fiber coupler from decreasing. SOLUTION: Flanks of 1st and 2nd optical fibers are brought into contact with each other and the 1st and 2nd optical fibers are heated. While the fusion- spliced part is drawn, a reference light signal is inputted to the 1st optical fiber from its input end and the intensity of a light signal outputted from an output end of at least one of the 1st and 2nd optical fibers is detected. A target drawing length with which the intensity of the light signal or variation in the intensity reaches a target value is predicted. According to the target drawing length, the fusion-spliced part of the 1st and 2nd optical fibers is brought under drawing control. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
