PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method and a device for a cam shaft, capable of stably retaining each cam piece by greatly brought in contact with each cam table at a prescribed area, and surely and precisely fixing the cam piece to a shaft in a simple constitution. SOLUTION: This manufacturing device for the cam shaft is provided with a plurality of cam tables 1 (a-h) movable between a first position and a second position and shaft insertion means retaining a shaft S so as to insert the shaft S in each shaft hole Ca in each cam piece C and moving it in its axial direction. Each cam table 1 (a-h) is so constituted that retainer means 6 retains each cam piece C in a prescribed phase, a shaft insertion part 7 is so formed as to be opened in a side edge of the first position side, and the second position is so set as to orthogonally cross with the prescribed phase, or the direction where the nose Cb of each cam pieces faces.
