PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid wire without copper plating for CO<SB>2</SB>gas shielded arc welding capable of yielding weld metal of excellent toughness even in welding of large heat input and high inter-pass temperature. SOLUTION: Copper plating is not applied to the peripheral surface of a steel wire. The composition of the steel wire contains 0.01 to 0.15 mass% C, 0.55 to 1.10 mass% Si, 1.55 to 2.20 mass% Mn, 0.0005 to 0.020 mass% S, 0.14 to 0.30 mass% Ti, and 0.0020 to 0.010 mass% B, is restricted to≤0.015 mass% N,≤0.020 mass% O, and≤0.30 mass% Cu, and consists of the balance Fe and inevitable impurities. Free C is applied at 0.01 to 4 g per 10 kg wire on the surface of the steel wire and MoS<SB>2</SB>is applied at 0.01 to 1 g per 10 kg wire on the surface of the steel wire. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
