PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten set-up time and to improve the efficiency of working by quickly performing the positioning of a work in the case of inclined bending. SOLUTION: In a bending device for performing a prescribed bending work to the work W by striking the work W against end gauges 1 of a back gauge, freely rotatable side stoppers 2 are provided on the end gauges 1. The positions Y<SB>1</SB>, Y<SB>2</SB>in the back-and-forth directions of the end gauges 1 are calculated so that the end gauges 1 are inclined at a prescribed inclined angleθ<SB>0</SB>by a means 30C for calculating the position of the end gauge on the basis of the shape of the work W detected by a work shape detecting means 30B and also the turning angleθof the side stopper 2 to the end gauge surface W1 of the work W is calculated by a means 30D for calculating the turning angle of the side stopper. The end gauges 1 are moved to the calculated positions in the back-and- forth direction by a back gauge driving and controlling means 30G and the side stoppers 2 are turned by the calculated turning angleθ.
