PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forge-forming a gear which can realize the improvement of the dimension accuracy and the smooth surface finishing, and shorten a forming time of a article for making crowning to the teeth of the gear having the specified tooth thickness formed through rough forging, and also to provide a device therefor. SOLUTION: This method forge-forms a tooth blank for an external tooth gear having specified tooth thickness into a gear with crowning. The lower end 2b of a tooth 2c composed of the blank 2 is inserted into a first space S1 at first by the pressing of an upper punch, thus forming a crowning from the lower end 2b of the tooth 2c to the central part thereof. A lower die 12 and an upper die 19 are brought into contact with each other in a way that the first space S1 and the second space S2 of the upper die 19 are smoothly connected with each other. Thereafter, the upper end 2a of the blank 12 held in the lower die 12 is inserted into the second space at first S2 by pressing a lower punch, thus forming a crowning from the upper end 2a of the tooth 2c to the central part thereof.
