PURPOSE: A system for authenticating a USB key including fingerprint information is provided to improve security and convenience by enabling a USB-key possessor to manage important data using a fingerprint. CONSTITUTION: A USB-key(12) includes fingerprint information, a certificate, an electronic signature private secret key, and a user account and password of a USB-key user(10). A fingerprint recognition unit(14) receives fingerprint information from the USB-key user(10) and outputs the fingerprint information. When the USB-key(12) including fingerprint information is inserted into a USB port, a host PC(16) includes a program. The program is capable of comparing output fingerprint data with fingerprint data being output in the fingerprint recognition unit(14) and verifying/authenticating the USB-key user(10). The USB-key user(10) inserts the USB-key(12) into one side of a USB input device of the host PC(16) and uses the USB-key(12). If the USB-key user(10) inputs a fingerprint into the fingerprint recognition unit(14), the fingerprint recognition unit(14) transmits a fingerprint image to the host PC(16).
